Treating your Addiction and Withdrawls with Suboxone
What is Suboxone?
Suboxone is a prescription medicine used to treat adults who are addicted to or dependent on opioid drugs whether it be from prescription or illegal. This Medication is also a great option for pain control.
For dependence on short-acting opioids, like heroin or prescription painkillers, these medications, which contain buprenorphine and naloxone, may be recommended to help you begin and maintain continuity of treatment. Treatment with Suboxone/Subutex involves several stages. One of our healthcare providers will decide what is an appropriate treatment plan for you.
Induction
You begin your treatment under the supervision of one of our addiction specialists. We will work with you to reach a dose of medication that works best for you.
Maintenance
We will then help you transition to the maintenance phase of treatment when you:
- Are no longer experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
- Have minimal to no side effects.
- No longer have uncontrollable cravings.
- Have adequate pain control.
In the maintenance phase, you may be taking your medication regularly as prescribed. You should comply with all of the instructions in your treatment plan including responsibly and handling of the medication, staying free from illicit or harmful drug use, and seeking counseling and/or psycho-social support.
Medical Taper
The decision to discontinue therapy with Suboxone after a period of maintenance should be made as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. It is important that you work with our addiction specialist to determine when the time is right to slowly lower your dose. Throughout your treatment, you should discuss any concerns you have about relapse and any side effects that bother you or that does not go away with your healthcare provider.

I want to comment on my visits to see Emily and Laicy at the north office; they are so professional and caring! I feel so comfortable with talking to them about the issues I may have at the time and know that when I leave my appointment that we have gone over everything with answers.
